What Is a Senior Session Anyway?

For any high school student senior year is filled with landmarks, achievements and many, many changes. For many this is not only the last year of high school, it's the last year they'll be living under their parents roof and the last year they're in school with the friends they grew up with. This is the year were they're making plans for their future, and after this everything changes. They're on the threshold of something great and on their way to start achieving their dreams.

It is important to document this stage of their lives with a professional portrait session carefully planned to bring out the best of their personalities. This is what a senior session is for, plus you get to show a stunning portrait of yourself on your yearbook.

Looking back to my high school years always puts a smile on my face. Rehearsals for choir, my first photography classes, Model United Nations club, and of course getting to hang out with my friends all day at school. Although I do have some photos on Facebook, none of them really show me in my best light nor they reflect who I really was at that time.

I had photographed Daniela for her sweet 15 a couple of years ago. Last month I ran into her and she said she wanted to get her senior photos done with me while she was down here.  She wanted some photos in studio and some at the beach, she sent me photos of her outfits and I sent her my ideas.

The day of the session, we started at around noon in the studio. Daniela came with her cousin Ana Paola, who I have featured in my Facebook page before. Ana Paola was a crucial part of this session as she helped us blow Daniela's hair with a piece of cardboard and encouraged Daniela throughout the entire session.

We shot four different setups while we waited for the sun to go down to head to South Padre Island for the beach photos Daniela wanted.

We got to SPI at around 6:30 and made a quick stop at McDonald's before starting with the last set of this senior session. The beach was full of people swimming, fishing and playing around, but we managed to find a nice spot were we could take photos as the sun went down and enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Photographing Daniela was a treat. Even though I don't see her often, I've gotten to see her grow through the photographs we make together and I'm sure she and her family will treasure these photos for years to come.
